Welcome to Gramps! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the help pages. Again, welcome and have fun! Sam888 (talk) 00:26, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

GEDCOM consolidation
Thanks for beginning to attack the GEDCOM import/export documentation.
The other day, had a new user ask if Gramps actually supported GEDCOM import. My first reaction was to think "OBVIOUSLY it does, RTFM!" It seemed like this would be a quickly handled question where I could just (kindly) point them at the appropriate subsection of the Import page.
No such luck.
I started searching and there wasn't an obvious page with the step-by-step process for the ideal problem-free import & a "clearing house" or "portal" page to troubleshooting GEDCOM idiosyncracies. Worse, bits & pieces of the critical information was scattered everywhere.
Like the Download page, the basic import page has grown so convoluted (and choked with caveats & tech detail) that it has become scary for the new user.
I've never needed to use the GEDCOM. So thanks for working on it.
