מהם מסננים? מסננים הם דרך להורות למאגר הנתונים להציג רק רשומות שמכילות מאפיינים מסוימים. ניתן גם לבצע את הפעולה ההפוכה — להסתיר רשומות עם מאפיינים מסוימים. המסננים אינם משנים או מוחקים רשומות, אלא רק מסתירים אותן זמנית מתצוגה.
סינון מידע גנאלוגי הוא חיוני למחקר, וגם מסייע בהסרת "רעשי רקע" ונתונים שאינם רלוונטיים מדוחות. רוב הדוחות בגרמפס מאפשרים שימוש במסננים, כך שיוצג מידע רק על אנשים שתואמים למסנן שנבחר. מן הצד השני, הנתונים שמוצגים בתצוגה מסוננת עשויים לעיתים להכיל את כל המידע הדרוש — ובכך לשמש כמעין דו"ח מותאם־אישית שנבנה על־ידי המשתמש עצמו.

כיצד להגדיר מסננים מותאמים אישית
מסננים מותאמים אישית מוגדרים לפי סוג־אב המצג הפעיל. כאשר מצג אנשים מוצג – יווצר מסנן אנשים; כאשר מוצג מצג אירועים – יווצר מסנן אירועים; וכן הלאה.
יש לבחור בתפריט עריכה ← עורך מסנן <סוג־אב>. בחַלּון מסנני <סוג־אב> יש לבחור הוספת מסנן חדש כדי לפתוח את דו־שיח הגדרת מסנן.
בדו־שיח הגדרת מסנן ניתן לתת למסנן שם ולהוסיף לו כללים — מובנים במערכת או כאלה שמגיעים מתוספים. הנתונים יסוננו בהתאם לכללים שהוגדרו.

בדיקת מסנן מותאם אישית
מתוך רשימת מסנני <סוג־אב> יש לבחור את המסנן המותאם שנוצר קודם לכן וללחוץ על הלחצן בדיקת המסנן שנבחר. יופיע דו־שיח בדיקת מסנן המציג את תוצאות הסינון, אם נמצאו כאלה.

To the right of the list view, a sidebar will open, allowing to filter your data. At the bottom of this, you can select the newly created Custom Filter. Click on Find, and all Persons/Families/Events/Places/Media/Sources/Citations/Repositories/Notes matching the filter are displayed.
Other options
You have an option Export view on the Family Trees menu. This gives you the opportunity to export the view as a spreadsheet with following format options:

- Open Document Spreadsheet
Another method would be that you select the Export option on the Family Trees menu. An Export Assistant view will be presented where you also can select the Comma Separated Values Spreadsheet (CSV). Next, click on the Forward button and in the next screen you can select in the Options view which filter you want to use and whether you want to include Individuals, Marriages and Children. Click once again on the Forward button and you can save the file.

What you can do with a filter depends on the rules available to you in Gramps.
