Os detalhes do evento registam a sua categorização, a data (que pode ser uma data exacta ou um intervalo de datas) e o local onde ocorreu, e incluem frequentemente uma breve descrição quando a categorização é vaga. Uma categoria "Nascimento" é frequentemente suficientemente específica para não necessitar de uma descrição. Mas um evento Profissão quase não tem sentido sem uma descrição que contenha o tipo específico de vocação.
Os acontecimentos eventos/factos podem ser partilhados entre várias pessoas e várias famílias. Cada pessoa ou família pode ter tido um papel diferente nos eventos partilhados.
