Standard GEDCOM as transfer tool

Standard GEDCOM as transfer tool
Most programs for storing family history data can export and import GEDCOM (<code>.ged</code>) files. But, because the 1996 vintage GEDCOM data file specification has not been updated since 1996remained in "Draft" status from Oct.1999 to Nov.2019, every genealogy tool has had to take liberties to shoehorn their data into something that has been long outgrown. You're would be unlikely to find anyone using a fully compliant and standard GEDCOM format. So (A new 7.0.2 revision was finally published in June of 2021. See GEDCOM 7 support for the current state of development.) Due to these idiosyncrasies and dialects of GEDCOM, you should always make a backup before importing any GEDCOM file.

Ensure that your media files are transferred too, and found by Gramps. In the menu Tools -> Utilities, you will find the Media Manager. If needed, with which this allows you can to change the path of your media objects to the new path if needed.
