GRAMPS Gramps views a family as a relationship between two people. This relationship could be ''Married'', ''Unmarried'',
''Civil Union'', or ''Unknown''. The two principle people are labeled as ''Father'' and ''Mother''. However, these can be used to handle childless couples, couples with children, or even same-sex partners. A person can have multiple partners, but each is listed in a different Family.
Your screen should look something like what is below:
Click on the {{man button|Add Partner}} button (in some earlier releases of GRAMPSGramps, this button was labeled as '''Add Relationship'''). This will bring up the Edit Family form with ''John Smith'' listed as the Father in the family. Had the active person been a female, the person would have been listed as the Mother in the family. The Edit Family form can be seen below.
