Importing allows you to transfer data from other genealogy programs into a Gramps Family Tree. Gramps includes a core set of importer plugins that are selected automatically based on the corresponding file extension. You can also install additional "Importer" [[Third-party_Addons|plugin type of third-party addons]] can be installed and the automation will recognize the new file extensions.
The automation can be overridden. (Which is useful when formats are updated and make the core plugins obsolete.)
