→Importing data
Importing allows you to transfer data from other genealogy programs into a Gramps Family Tree. Gramps includes a core set of importer plugins that are selected automatically based on the corresponding file extension. And "Importer" [[Third-party_Addons|plugin type of third-party add-ons]] can be installed and the automation will recognize the new file extensions.
The automation can be overridden. (Which is useful when formats are updated and make the core plugins obsolete.) Use the {{man label|Select file type:}} popdrop-up down menu in the {{man label|Import Family Tree}} dialog to select from the following formats:
* Automatically detected ''(default)''
* [[#Gramps_CSV_import|Comma Separated Values Spreadsheet (CSV)]] (<code>.csv</code> file extension)
