===Browse to a record===
To find a record in one of the category list views, first switch to the appropriate category that provides the list of the desired records: People, Sources, Places, or Media. Then scroll to the the desired record. The focus of the active record for the category is changed by selecting a record. Simply scrolling the view does not change the active record focus.
By default, the list will be sorted on the first column of the tabular data. The for grouped (People) or hierarchical tree (Places) records, the first column is required to be the "Name" column. In the People, the grouping is based on the Preferred Surname. In the Places, the Grouping is based on the order of Enclosing Places.
{{man tip|"Ref" clipboard objects include Shared Information|Some objects show a link icon in the left column and say 'ref' in the label. This indicates that dragging such selection will produce a reference to a shared object, not link the object itself. All the shared attributes will be replicated.For example, the media object file will not be duplicated. Instead, the reference will be made to an existing media object, which will result in the local gallery entry.}}
