Root access
==== X11 ====
The MacPorts information says that you have to install X11, either from an Apple disk or from an open source version. My iMac came pre-installed with X11 out of the Apple box, so that is probably the default nowadays. In that case, no action is needed.
==== Superuser ====
All the 'ports' installation operations require superuser access, also known as root access, also known as an admin account. If you don't have this on your Mac, you have to ask an admin account holder to change your account settings, with system preferences - accounts from the Apple menu in the top left of the menu bar.
