The {{man label|Family name}} and {{man label|Type}} fields provide an "autocompletion" feature: as you type in these fields, a menu appears below the field containing database entries that match your partial input. This gives you a shortcut by letting you select an entry that already exists in the database rather than having to type it all out. Le nom d'usage ou nom préféré est le nom qui sera utilisé dans GRAMPS comme 'nom' de l'individu. Vous pouvez définir comment il sera affiché depuis les [[Gramps_3.1_Wiki_Manual_-_Settings/fr#Affichage|Préférences de GRAMPS]], et dans tout le programme vous ne verrez que le nom d'usage. Seul les rapports détaillés et le générateur de site internet afficheront les noms alternatifs. Notez que rechercher un nom va explorer tous les noms liés à cette personne, pas seulement le nom d'usage.
La section {{man label|Nom d'usage}} contient l'information typique sur le nom nécessaire lors de la saisie ddu nom de l'un individu. Toutes les informations possibles sur le nom ne sont pas affichées, seulement les plus champs de saisie importants. Pour voir les possibilités sur le nom, cliquez sur le bouton d'édition après le titre {{man label|Nom d'usage}}. Eg, a person can have 3 given names as in ''Jean Baptiste Jules'', where in reality only ''Baptiste'' is used. Some people will use this field also for nickname, or changes to the Given name (like Cristy for Cristinapar exemple Jeannot pour Jean), but this is not the official use. A call name is a legal name. For nick names, or short name variants, you should create an alternative name, with a different type.

It is advised to use for the preferred name a name with legal tender as that is what most often is found on documents, and store other name types in the name tab of the person editor.
Le bouton {{man label|Éditer}} (c'est, l'icône "stylo et papier") situé près du champ d'entrée {{man label|Préfixe}} appelant le dialogue {{man label|Éditeur de nom}}. Ce dernier vous permet d'éditer le nom préféré dans le détail (voir [[Media:Edit-an.png|Éditeur de nom]]).
