Image reference regions can be used to select or highlight portions of images. It is relatively easy to establish reference regions by following these steps:

* By whichever method is easiest, access the database object where the image is used. Typically, this would be a person, place, event, or source.
* Go to the gallery tab for that object. Edit an existing image, or add a new one.

Starting with GRAMPS 3.1.0, image reference regions are also displayed in the Narrative Web HTML pages created with GRAMPS. There are no special options necessary in Narrative Web for this feature, other than the existence of reference regions for 1 or more images. Narrative Web displays reference regions for people and place objects only.
